Medical/Clinical Assistant (Full Time)
Department: Podiatry
Location: 1326 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah, GA
SouthCoast Seeks a Medical/Clinical Assistant for our Podiatry Department Job Summary: Provides clinical & clerical support to the physician. Provides excellent customer service to patients.
Responsibilities: Obtains and records vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respirations and temperature). Provides patient support and service during intake process.
Follows instructions as given by physician. (This position does not prepare nor administer medications.)
Sterilize all instruments and pack for sterile field
Assist physician in podiatry procedures by passing instruments and items requested.
Stock exam and procedure rooms
Promptly responds to and returns calls to patients.
Verifies and updates patient data. Assists patients with completion of paperwork, as required.
Provides approved patient education materials upon direction of provider.
Assist with patient plans of care and document care coordination and interventions while integrating quality measurements and other accrediting body requirements in order to demonstrate results and show quality improvement in patients.
Assists with patient inquiries/concerns regarding medical care, medication instructions and prescription call-ins in a prompt, courteous and efficient manner.
Communicates with pharmacy.
Complies with all OSHA regulations.
Assures patient care needs are met and where possible exceeded.
Maintains clean work areas throughout the practice site; observes safety guidelines as established by the Supervisor and Physician. Stocks exam rooms and supplies.
Reports to work on a regular and consistent basis.
Performs or assists with non-clinical duties as assigned by Supervisor. Assists in other physician areas as assigned by Supervisor.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Familiar with medical terminology obtained through work environment or attended class at technical school for PCT. Medical Assistant is highly preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting training program or
- Medical Assistant in the military (DD214), or
- EMT-A or paramedic is required.
*An exception may be granted to individuals that have not attended an accredited training program but do have (i) a national certification in medical assisting and (ii) a minimum of 2 years of medical assisting experience. Such exception may only occur following (i) a thorough evaluation of the individual's experience; training/education; skills and qualifications, (ii) a determination by the Director of Nursing that such individual has the requisite skills and knowledge to perform as a Medical Assistant and (iii) written approval from two Executive Committee members. *
