Chemical Laboratory Technician I/II

We are seeking a Chemical Laboratory Technician to support a fast-paced fuels testing laboratory in Richmond, VA. This is a hands-on, service-oriented laboratory position focused on completing requested testing, preparing fuel and additive blends, maintaining laboratory equipment, and accurately documenting results.

This is not a traditional research laboratory role. The laboratory receives testing requests from internal technical teams and customers, prepares the necessary samples, conducts established tests, and reports the results within agreed-upon timelines.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare gasoline, diesel fuel, additive, and component blends according to established procedures.
• Perform routine physical, chemical, and bench testing using documented laboratory methods.
• Conduct testing related to viscosity, corrosion, lubricity, filterability, friction, stability, and cold-flow properties.
• Evaluate additive performance by comparing treated fuel samples with untreated base fuels.
• Operate specialized laboratory equipment safely and accurately.
• Complete preliminary reviews of test results and communicate findings to the appropriate teams.
• Enter sample, testing, and result information into laboratory databases and LIMS.
• Maintain complete and accurate testing and quality documentation.
• Support internal product development and customer technical service requests.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, samples, and inventory.
• Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and escalate concerns when appropriate.
• Pull and handle samples from containers, including five-gallon cans.
• Keep laboratory workspaces clean, organized, and compliant with safety requirements.
• Participate in safety, quality, and ISO-related activities.
• Collaborate regularly with laboratory colleagues, technical teams, and internal customers.
• Complete multiple testing requests while meeting established timelines and quality standards.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated science, chemistry, or laboratory training, experience, or aptitude.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Ability to follow detailed written procedures and document work accurately.
• Understanding of safe laboratory practices.
• Strong reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work fully onsite, Monday through Friday.
• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate within a small team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate or bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, forensic science, environmental science, or another laboratory-based scientific discipline.
• Previous laboratory experience through employment, internships, undergraduate coursework, or academic laboratories.
• Experience preparing chemical blends or samples.
• Experience performing bench testing or working with laboratory equipment.
• Familiarity with gasoline, diesel fuel, lubricants, additives, or industrial fluids.
• Experience using LIMS or another laboratory data-management system.
• At least two years of chemical laboratory experience for Level II consideration.
